Despite their youth, the members of the Fairfield Ludlowe High School A Cappella program have entertained thousands. FLHS boasts two talented a cappella groups: Close Harmony (coed) and Aria (all female). Close Harmony, under the direction of Lauren Pine, and Aria, under the direction of Lauren Regan, proudly continue the a cappella tradition, singing dynamic arrangements of songs from both the past and present at their annual FTC concert. The a cappella program is made successful by its strong student involvement and leaders. Each group also has student director(s) and often performs arrangements written by the students themselves. While the two a cappella groups contribute greatly to their school in activities such as opening events with the National Anthem, providing entertainment for fashion shows, fundraising events and special concerts, they also perform for the community. Yearly events include: Project Runway, Relay for Life, Shop ‘n Stroll, community outreach at The Carlton and Sturges facilities, and Fairfield County’s Sea Ceremony. Both Close Harmony and Aria are always highlighted at Fairfield’s Ludlowe High School’s acclaimed “Candlelight” holiday concert. Close Harmony has also opened for “Rockapella” at the Quick Center for the Arts. Singing with a precision rivaling some of the top collegiate a cappella groups today, Close Harmony has enjoyed highly successful collaborative performances with various university a cappella groups that include Harvard, Colgate, Cornell, and Dartmouth. In a most recent competition, Close Harmony received the Silver overall at the annual Wyvern Invitational A Cappella Festival (WIAF), gold for best male vocalist (Aidan Kilgallon) and silver for beatboxing (Markus Priede). Aria prides themselves on being a tight-knit group of friends that also happen to have a passion for singing. During this most recent school year, Aria attended the NE Voices a cappella festival in Boston, MA, where they participated in a masterclass and other workshops with nationally acclaimed a cappella musicians. Aria was also invited to perform at the A Cappellooza Extravaganza event in April, where they collaborated with several collegiate a cappella groups, including Something Extra from Yale University, The Chordials from the University of Connecticut, and The Vassar Devils from Vassar University.
