Thompson’s influence can’t be overstated. Everybody from Robert Plant, Don Henley, and Elvis Costello to REM, Sleater-Kinney and David Byrne has covered his music. Having co-founded the groundbreaking group Fairport Convention as a teenager in the 60s, he and his bandmates invented the distinctive strain of British Folk Rock.
The Los Angeles Times called him "the finest rock songwriter after Dylan and the best electric guitarist since Hendrix " and Rolling Stone has named him one of the "Top 100 Guitarists of All Time." Just last week, David Gilmour joined Richard for 'Dimming of the Day' at Thompson's 70th Birthday celebration in London. Watch it here.
“…this old hand is primed to remind the kids just how things are done.” - Rolling Stone
