SEEDS OF CHANGE CHALLENGE is a celebration of the earth, the importance of seed sovereignty, soil ecology, and the small changes every individual can make to their CT lives to feel they are part of preserving a healthy environment. Starting at 4:00 you’ll be able to check out an exhibition of natural vendors and local environmental groups. At 4:30 there will be a breathing exercise led by Megan Zwerlein, a local yoga instructor, followed by a movie screening of Seeds of Vandana Shiva.This documentary tells the remarkable life story of eco-activist Dr. Vandana Shiva, how she stood up to the corporate Goliaths of industrial agriculture, rose to prominence in the seed and organic food movement, and is inspiring an international crusade for change. There will be a Q & A after the film moderated by Sefra Alexandra, the Seed Huntress. She leads The Ecotype Project for CT NOFA {Northeast Organic Farming Association}, an initiative making truly local native seed available to rewild our corridors for the pollinators! She revived the allium heirloom of her hometown, The Southport Globe Onion, leading her to start the seed library at the Pequot Library to freely share the seed with all. In an effort to promote backyard stewardship she founded the BOATanical Expeditions where she plants native plants by boat right here in Fairfield County. Sefra holds her MAT in Agroecological Education from Cornell, is a Genebank Impacts Fellow for the Crop Trust & is a member of the Explorers Club. She & her twin brother have responded to natural disasters around the world with their company Tactivate & resilience skills social club: The Readiness Collective. She is dedicated to developing an economically and environmentally sustainable agriculture across fruit, vegetable, livestock, cut flower and now restoration seed production.
