To close out the 80’s, Fairfield University band Split Decision found immediate success with their blend of guitar-driven new wave rock invoking R.E.M., Elvis Costello, The Pretenders, and Talking Heads. On the heels of their triumphant return to the stage in 2022, Split Decision has announced an encore performance on June 9th, 2023 as the official kick off to the Fairfield University Class of ’88 Reunion Weekend, but the show will be open to the public and pull from many FU reunion classes and Fairfield County music lovers, as all Split Decision shows have in the past! Headlining the first Clam Jam in ’87 and biweekly Masters Sports Café shows that drew throngs of loyal fans, the band left its mark on the local music scene before going its separate ways after graduation. They couldn’t have envisioned reuniting more than three decades later but after some inspired online jam sessions, the band decided to make it official for the 2022 Fairfield University Reunion. The result: a thrilled capacity crowd at Park City Music Hall were treated to nearly 3 hours of frenetic dance-inspiring rock, humor, and fun that brought everyone back in time, including a new generation of Split Decision fans that proved you don’t have to be from an 80’s or 90’s college class to enjoy the party! A special performance by original members of FU alumni alternative rock band When I Woke is also expected on what looks to be 2023’s “can’t miss” concert event for college rock music lovers of every age and alumni class, See you at the show! Current Split Decision members include Brian Machler ’87 Guitar/Vocals, Kevin Kuryla ’88 Bass, Dennis O’Brien ’88 Guitar/Vocals, Mary Guerin ’88 Vocals, Pete Holland ’88 Saxophone, Pete Bongiorno ’90 Drums/Vocals, and Ben De la Cruz ’89 Keyboards/Percussion.
